(More customer reviews)I love this cup! Very cool looking. BPA-free and dishwasher safe. It keeps the ice solid for hours... and the outside of the cup stays dry. Don't you hate when your iced drink is neglected for 30 minutes and has all the ice melt and you've got 50% water and a mildly chilled drink and sweaty cup? NO MORE I TELL YOU!!!
No more frozen or wet hands (or laps) from holding and sipping an iced cup on a hot humid day. No more puddles on the desk. A coworker is not a SB fan but got one just to keep for ice water at work. This is not the cheap cup you get for $8-12 at any store. Thick double-walled so it keeps cold for a long time. You will be dumping out the ice because it stays solid long after you finished your drink. If you want to "stretch" the value of your drink you can always add a little water when it gets low... but you won't count on the ice melting much to do it for you.
As superior as I have found my (now ancient) steel Starbucks travel cup to be for hot coffee... (much better than other common cups) I believe this cold cup is likewise a standout performer. SB has other cold cups, I don't know if they are better or worse but I know I like the appearance of this one the best.
Before getting this, I was not throwing the regular clear plastic cups in the trash (recyclable plastic). I'd stack them up and in a week the stack is a foot high. ;) No longer! At my rate of 20-30 drinks or so a month and the 10 cent discount SB gives on refills the cup pays for itself in half a year or so. (Gotta love the iced Americano on a hot day... sometimes I love it twice!). Makes a great gift if you know someone like me always gets a certain size drink!
BTW My regular order is marked on the side of the cup (grease pencil, covered up with clear tape so it does not rub off). Just an idea. Sometimes they don't "hear" when I say DECAF and I used to always watch like a hawk to make sure they were marking it down correctly. Cup has the same little boxes on the side so the info is right where they are used to looking.
As of July 2010 I am sure 99% of stores I see around Atlanta DO NOT HAVE THESE in stock and have no idea when, if ever, they will see them again. I have been looking for months! Almost every store says "yeah, we sold out on those in the first few days..." and "we get calls from all over the state from people looking for them". A couple had the 16 oz... never the 20. I've checked about 15-18 stores if memory serves, FL and GA. That tells me they ARE NOT commonly available at this time. Probably only a seasonal item or only left at an odd, low volume store. Starbucks online store does not have it either, although I do see replacement straws. Yeah, the cups cost more online. Supply and demand I guess- these look great, and work great so they are very popular.
The downside... my wife and daughter liked it so much I had to get them each one too! ;D

(More customer reviews)Hello, and hope you don't mind a lengthy but detailed review. I just got my cup today, 12/24/2009, and am very impressed. As other reviewers have mentioned, this cup is an undiscovered jewel. I was looking to replace my Aladdin travel mug (like this one, but blue) Aladdin 16-Ounce Easy Grip Tumbler, Black because the black rubber sealing gasket was starting to grind into fine powder when tightened (not healthy!), so this is a very welcome change. To be fair, the Aladdin was approximately 2 years old and got heavy daily use.
First, the lid is see-through, which my Aladdin mug had the standard black plastic lid and I never saw what I was drinking (although I knew it was clean because I drink approximately 1 gallon of water I prepare from my private well and take to work with me each day). I didn't think that would matter much, but truthfully, seeing what you are drinking is just more relaxing for some odd reason.
Second, if you look closely at the clear, plastic lid, the white portion that meets the body of the cup is actually one huge sealing gasket, so there is no way it should leak at that location if you close it securely. I also don't have to tighten it very tight to get an excellent seal, which will save on wear and tear of the plastic threads.
Third, the included straw is very heavy duty and might save me a little money on straws (I only wish it were an inch shorter, but no biggie). If the cup would leak anywhere it might leak where the straw goes into the lid, but the straw fits pretty snugly in the hole as the white you see on the lid is actually like a thick, rubber gasket.
Fourth, I still had ice today well into my 5th hour of work. Allow me to explain: I fill my cup with ice and then water from the tap before I head to work so I can have something to drink on the ride - beats soda!!). The ice in the Aladdin was usually gone by the 2nd hour of work. I have to mention that the cup does get pretty cool to the touch, but if you're a hot natured person like me, no big deal. I only mention it because I have not tried it with hot beverages such as coffee or cocoa yet, and it may get a little warm to the touch (which would be great on a cold winter's day!). There was also NO condensation anywhere on this cup (and it had been raining for almost 24 hours here in the South), and the contents were ice cold, so it should not slip from your hand.
So to sum up, you need to buy several of these cups, as I'm going to order some more now myself. The price is more than fair, its almost stealing, IMHO. The fine design of these cups is a most welcome change to most products today, I hope they are American designed and made.
Final words, when I showed my 74-year-old mother the cup, she fell in love with it; she loves the cool clear top and straw. Needless to say, Mom knows best and she'll be getting one or two herself!! And when I got to work my co-workers were very enamored of it too. For the very low price, you truly can't go wrong.

UPDATE 2009-05-17: I would drop another star on this from three to two stars. We've only had this a few days and the paint on the bottom is already coming off.
