Spares you getting your fingers cut, your teeth broken, not to mention the frustration involved in reaching the product. Originally I read the review on similar tools by David Pogue of the New York Times who mentioned the Dual-X. This tool has 2 blades that enbale you first to slit the package and then get the rest of the job done MUCH better than scissors, knives or perhaps, in desperation, hammers!

(More customer reviews)I just received my Zipit and I was pleasantly surprised to see it did NOT come in a clamshell package. You need 2 AA batteries to use The Zipit. I had to play with it for a minute before getting it to work just right but the included instructions give very good guidance. If I had bothered to read them before trying to use it myself I would have been better off. There are some good tips in there. Once I got it to work, it was FANTASTIC! For a mother who has cut several fingers trying to open those stupid clamshells this was a breath of fresh air. I am actually looking forward to the next clamshell I encounter. One more use that is NOT mentioned in the instructions...when used with the safety cap on you can easily cut open envelopes, even the thicker package envelopes. A nice added bonus.
