(More customer reviews)I got sick of frozen water in my dogs' bucket. After the first night in the bucket, my dog's water is still fluid with not even a skim of ice. So, it's working. The directions say not to use an extension cord and after reading the insert that came with heater, I think I know why. I think most people run a really long extension cord to wherever they need the heater, which I imagine can be pretty far. I don't think most people have outlets in their horse barns and dog kennels. I believe most people do not use a small enough gauge when they run the cord long distances and the heater does not get all the juice it needs to function properly. I am using a 25ft 14 gauge cord. I think at 25ft I could have still used a 16 gauge cord but decided to use 14. If you are going to use a 50ft-100ft definitely pony up and use a 14 gauge extension cord. Heck, you might have to use a 12 gauge at 100ft.
