(More customer reviews)First of all, for $19.99, the quality of this item is pathetic. The plastic is so cheap I can press in and dent it with my thumb. The removable bases are so flimsily attached that I don't think I can trust them to hold an actual, real drink. I can see daylight through tiny cracks in the bottoms of a few of the glasses. With the whopping $20 I was charged for shipping, I could have bought some real glassware, or I could have found something nicer for a dollar at the Salvation Army. What really makes me angry about this order is the shipping charge. Shipping on this item for the continental US is free, even through USPS, Priority Mail. By plugging in the dimensions, etc. plus insurance ($1.70), I have determined that normal shipping on this item to Alaska or Hawaii is $10.40. The mailing label says that this package was sent with a Commercial Base Rate which gives the company a 5% discount off of retail USPS price, bringing our total to $9.88. Big City says that the additional $10 is to cover their mail order business costs and the 15% which Amazon tacks on to the shipping charge. Big City's operational costs aside, our actual total is now $11.36. That the Continental US receives free shipping on this item, while Alaska and Hawaii are gouged an additional $8.64 for no reason whatsoever is discriminatory and unfair business practice. This type of shipping structure should be illegal. Why is the rest of the country exempt from paying for the company's operational costs? The excuse that Alaska and Hawaii are really far away is ludicrous. I've just given the actual costs. This is one order. Imagine that Big City receives 1000 orders from Alaska and Hawaii for the same or similarly priced items; that comes to $8640 and also imagine that 80% or more mail order companies across the country have similar shipping policies. Say there are 10,000 orders placed from Alaska and Hawaii in a week for similarly priced items. Now we are talking $86,400 in shipping gouging while the rest of the country pays nothing. Is this fair or ethical? Heck, no!
