(More customer reviews)Bought a set of ManGrates a few months ago and like others was skeptical at first, but I can definitely say they are great (almost said grate but couldn't bring myself to it).
The Pros:
Easy to set up - Aside from being heavy (they are solid cast iron and about 8-9 pounds each), they just lay on the grill and are ready to go out of the box
Grill marks - I love the look of grill marks on a steak or anything else. The grates give you nice lines and really give it that professional look
Taste - Speaking of professional like, whatever the grates do, they made my steaks and chicken taste restaurant quality. I am guessing since the grates keep the meat off the flame and cook it through the heat of the metal, that it keeps the good stuff on the inside and reduces burning the outside (I am clearly up on my technical grilling terms).
Durability - Its only been a few months, but I don't see any way these grates aren't going to outlive my grill. They are pretty heavy duty.
Cons
Need a little tlc to begin with - While they are really easy to setup (just put on grill), you should probably follow the recommendation on the box and put some olive oil or something on them the first time you use them. My friend that recommended them to me said the first time he used them, he didn't do this, and had some minor sticking issues. It cleared up once the grates got some oils and run off from the bbq (which actually makes things taste better over time) though and were fine from the 2nd time on.
Takes a little getting used to - Because they don't cook in the same way, your cooking times may be slightly different. Took me a couple times to get my times adjusted, but everything was amazing once I got it down. Though I am not the best griller, despite my almost daily use, so this may not be a problem for others.
Overall, I would have to recommend them to just about anyone. The price isn't bad and given how much they have improved my grilling, they are actually a pretty good deal. I know I plan on getting a couple more and am giving my father a set for Xmas. If you grill or are looking for a gift for someone who does, these are definitely a good buy.
