West Bend 76026 High Speed Baking QuikServe Oven, Black/Silver Review

This oven is aesthetically pleasing but takes up a lot of counter space. It seems a lot of thought went into the design ,for example the nice weight cooking pan has a separate lift bracket with stay cool handles. However, if the top part were just 2 inches taller it would have more functional use. I cooked Ore-Ida oven fries in it on the supplied non-stick pan and they were quickly cooked perfectly with an enhanced potato taste. Then later I cooked manicotti in a small and shallow rectangle glass Pyrex dish. Part of one of the top elements had burned melted cheese on it. Both items cooked much quicker than if I had used my regular sized convection oven or my convection microwave oven since no warm up period was required. However, it seems everything has to be place only on the cooking pan which is about the size of a medium frozen pizza. This greatly limits the everyday use of this oven. I had hoped since my toaster-oven recently died that this item would take it's place, but that is not the case. I will probably still use it for fries and frozen pizza, but if I'm baking cookies, a cake or a pie then I'll use my microwave or full sized oven.
03/07/11 update:
I happily use this appliance several times a week for multiple reheating and cooking. I was short sighted in thinking it was not sized properly for frequent use, although I still think making it a couple of inches taller would be beneficial. If you purchase Phillips' crab cakes, you can cook them frozen to perfection w/o adding any cooking oil or butter. When I cook fresh fish on this I do add butter and seasoning. When and if this appliance dies I will replace it.

Nuwave 20322 Pro Digital-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, Black Review

Nuwave 20322 Pro Digital-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, Black

This is my second Nuwave. I use it constantly. It is especially good for preparing meals for one to two people. It does everything a conventional oven will do, only better, faster, and with substantially less electricity. Items I would once use a microwave to prepare because of the time savings, I now regularly prepare in the Nuwave Oven.
However, it is too air tight. NO moisture escapes. That has its advantages and disadvantages. Items are moist and delicious, but if you like the crispiness a standard oven creates, expect less crispiness with the Nuwave. That, though, is a minor, almost insignificant tradeoff, compared with the valuable features. (One comment to the manufacuturer: What numbskull decided to put the allegedly "peel-off" sticker on the see-through ring? It does not peel off easily at all. There are a dozen glues you could have used that would cause it to peel off entirely, instantly. Instead, you went with some cheap, nearly permanent sticker that takes forever to get off. I have ALWAYS said engineers and manufacturers should be "sentenced" to use the appliances they create and produce for at least ten years.)

Black & Decker FC350 InfraWave Speed-Cooking Countertop Oven with Rotisserie Review

Black and Decker FC350 InfraWave Speed-Cooking Countertop Oven with Rotisserie
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This oven only does slightly better than a typical rotisserie or toaster type oven. If you are broiling a steak, unless you like your meat well done, you should start with frozen meat in order to get a browned surface with a pink center. The recipe book that comes with it only has a few examples and the pre-programed selections do not accomplish a proper product without adjustments to the time. It has a setting for rising crust pizza (like DiJourno) which starts with 14 minutes. A regular oven is 22 to 25 minutes. At 14 minutes, the pizza had risen but the crust was still very soft and the cheese was not even browned at all. I added time, and ended up at over 20 minutes with a pizza that was too soft and floppy. The same with frozen french fries. I expected a web site that would give more direction in how to use the oven but all the B & D web site has is the recipe book in pdf form.
As far as the rotisserie, the oven is not really big enough to even accomodate a medium sized chicken. I did do a small pork roast which came out nicely done. But it had to be a small roast to not touch the element guards. For the price, I was rather disappointed.

Unlike conventional or convection ovens, this state-of-the-art countertop oven uses infrared-light technology to evenly cook the inside and outside of foods simultaneously. Superior browning and crisping capabilities seal in flavor, whether cooking meat, poultry, or fish, and toast comes out perfect every time. The appliance cooks up to 50-percent faster than a conventional oven, with no pre-heating or thawing necessary, making it possible to pull dinner out of the freezer and have it fully cooked and ready to serve in no time. In fact, many dishes can be cooked in 20 minutes or less. There's also no need to worry about what temperature to cook at since the intelligent profiling system cycles the cooking lights according to the type of food being cooked. The oven provides a control panel with an LCD screen and 65 digital pre-settings for one-touch ease of use. For example, select from functions including pizza, quick foods, cookies, toast, reheat, bake/roast, or broil, and the digital display allows for scrolling through a variety of detailed choices. It also comes with a rotisserie spit and setting for rotisserie cooking poultry. Best of all, the units convert menu lets you enter the temperature and time for a favorite recipe, then automatically converts it to InfraWave time. Accessories include a dishwasher-safe broil rack and bake pan, a removable crumb tray, a handle to pull the trays out, and an instruction manual. The 1500-watt countertop oven with rotisserie measures approximately 14 by 13-3/4 by 10 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

NuWave 20326 Pro Digital-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, Black Review

NuWave 20326 Pro Digital-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was first introduced to the NuWave oven by my sister's boyfriend's grandfather. His grandfather needed to get rid of a lot of personal items because he was moving into an old folks home because he could no longer take care of himself. So we put his NuWave oven to use by cooking a lot of different things in it. Being a person who doesn't trust much infomercials I was skeptical at how well the NuWave oven works at first. I even saw the local news reporting on how quickly the NuWave oven makes meals but was still skeptical till I used it myself. I found that it cooked most meals pretty well and you really didn't have to watch it. You just set the cooking time and leave and come back when it's finished. I was so impressed by this that I bought one myself and used it at my apartment going to college. This thing was a life saver because I wouldn't have time to get food ready because I worked, had to do school work, and had to get ready for school. Which gives me absolutely little time to prepare food. It works well if you don't have a lot of time on your hands.
I cooked chicken thighs/legs/quarters/drumsticks, pork steaks, beef steaks, pork loins, pork chops, pork ribs, linguica sausage, smoke sausage, bratwurst, pizza (frozen and home made), frozen burritos, sasauge links, muffins, spam, vienna sausages, tater tots, salmon, tilapia, and practically anything you could think of in it. Most of the time it came out pretty good. Just make sure you turn it over because sometimes the other side of the food is unevenly cooked. It's very good for reheating certain types of food though.
Pros:
Saved time
Very convenient
Little effort
Didn't have to constantly monitor it
Easy to clean
Cons:
Sometimes the food was cooked unevenly because there is only one heat source
The dome eventually cracks and breaks (no one tells you this)
NuWave doesn't offer any replacement parts
It will not replace certain microwave items or the need to deep fry certain things
Cooking fatty foods will make it explode oil all over your plastic dome
The dome eventually gets stained and is difficult to remove
They don't offer a glass dome
*TIPS*
Always make sure you flip your food so it cooks evenly
Follow the suggested temperature power setting for the food you are cooking
Make sure you line the pan with aluminum foil so you don't have to scrub the pan
The plastic dome will slowly crack, I wish they would offer it with a heavy duty glass dome but it would cost them too much money to send you a NuWave with a glass dome. I guarantee the dome will crack first before the heating element will give out on your NuWave. But after 8 months of usage, the dome is cracked. I used this thing daily but it will not replace the need to fry chicken in a deep fryer or the convenience of microwaving food in a microwave safe container. I am now outsourcing to a glass blower who will manufacture me a replacement dome.

Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven Broiler Review

Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven Broiler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I followed the instructions for toast-set the rack to the B position, turned the temp to 500 degrees, set on bake/toast,turned the timer dial past 20 minute than back to the toast shade I desired, I selected the lightest shade possible. I was a little nervous after reading the burned toast comments so I stood by and watched. The toast was perfect, exactly as it would have been in a toaster.
Next I tried a 12" frozen pizza, followed the instructions-set to 425 degrees, set the rack to the A position, set the timer. The only thing I did differently was I placed a sheet of alumium foil under the bottom heating elements on top of the crumb tray because I put the pizza directly on top on the rack (instructions do not indicate to do this). I added extra cheese and spices, set the timer for 10 minutes. The top of the pizza was done perfectly. The crust was slightly burned on the bottom, next time I'll set the timer for 9 minutes and lower the temp(9 minutes for a frozen pizza! wow, even my pizzaz pizza cooker takes 25 minutes).
Yes, the dial is hard to turn at first, it does loosen up, so far this is my only complaint. I can't wait to roast chicken or a full meal using the convection feature. So far so good, very happy with this product. I got it for $104.00, so I'm even happier with the price.

The Sharper Image 8127SI Super Wave 1300-Watt 12-1/2-Quart Countertop Oven Review

I love this oven. I use it just about every day. It is very handy for making dinner without heating up the whole oven. I like not having to wait for the big oven to preheat. Now, dinner is ready before the big oven would have even been hot! Using the two racks, I can cook a whole meal for my family at once. The glass bowl is quite heavy, but I like that its glass. . .so many of these ovens have plastic, which seemed a little iffy to me. The fan that blows in the oven does make it hard to cook some things (like custards, lemon bars, etc.) that are completely liquid when they go in the oven. The "wind" makes the middle of these items bubble up. Crescent rolls & caned rolls/biscuits rise more than they do in a regular oven. They seem a little fluffier too. Fries come out very crispy, much better than in a regular oven.
I recommend buying the Flavorware Turbo Oven 4 Piece accessory set to use with this oven. It makes it more versatile.

Sharp R-820JS 0.9-Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave, Silver Review

Sharp R-820JS 0.9-Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave, Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I acquired this microwave when I was moving to a flat with limited kitchen space, and my primary reason for the choice was that the Sharp model was multi-functional. Since I've begun using it, I happily have ceased to sing a requiem for the toaster oven, separate grill, and other items I was 'consolidating' in this purchase.
I have used the Sharp microwave for grilling and roasting, as well as normal microwave functions, and the results are better than I could have expected. Grilled and roasted foods are extremely tender and juicy - at least of the quality one could expect from a conventional oven. I have had similar success with cooking vegetables.
Reheating muffins and breads has amazing results - they seem fresh baked and, unlike breads normally heated in a microwave, do not harden in a minute. I have used the convection feature for preparing breads, and had especially stunning results with preparing a frozen chicken pie. I suppose the surrounding air from the convection oven was the reason, but it seemed like a fresh-baked meat pie.
There are a few drawbacks, which would not compromise my five star rating because of the great versatility and high quality of the unit overall. The 'auto' roast, defrost, and grill features are very convenient, as is the prompting (telling one when to turn over the meat, for example), but they are very limited in the weight restrictions. For example, if one is defrosting ground meat, it has to be a certain weight - significantly more than that of a single hamburger. Though grills and roasts would mostly fit in to the specifications, this is a drawback for defrosting, where one must estimate times and key them in manually.
Another difficulty I have experienced, when grilling on the rack, is that drippings which fall either on to the carousel tray or a pan placed under the meat can become badly burnt and baked on. This was slightly disappointing for my intentions of preparing gravies on the side. My single attempt to do so meant I had to soak the pan overnight and then scrape. The grilling results are wonderful, as far as the effect on the meats, but there is a great deal of smoke generated. Whenever I grill, it sets off the smoke alarm - probably best to roast, then only grill at the end.
I would advise anyone purchasing this microwave to read the manual in full. The capabilities will not be realised otherwise. I actually use the unit less for 'standard microwaving' than for its other features.
One further comment: the Sharp microwave cookbook, which is advertised in the manual for the unit, is useful but not specific to the multi-functional machine. It contains only microwave recipes - none for grilling, roasting, or convection.
Overall, and considering that it can replace several appliances, this microwave is an extraordinary value.

With 1500-watt "double" grills that emit heat over and under food, this 900-watt convection microwave oven provides both browning and crisping capabilities. Eleven power levels offer added control, with temperature settings that include 100, 150, and 275 to 450 degrees F in 25-degree increments. With auto-touch convenience, choose from seven automatic settings, such as AutoGrill, AutoRoast, AutoDefrost, and Reheat. The unit's stainless-steel 0.9-cubic-foot capacity can accommodate a variety of snack and meal items, while its 12-3/4-inch-diameter carousel turntable helps ensure even heating. Other highlights include a two-line 12-digit interactive display with easy programming steps, cooking hints, and special options; an interior light, and an easy-to-clean design. Measuring approximately 19-3/4 by 20-1/2 by 12-1/8 inches, the convection microwave oven makes a useful addition to any busy kitchen.

Presto 03430 Pizzazz Pizza Oven Review

Presto 03430 Pizzazz Pizza Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all it's not perfect. The non-stick coating is thin on the pan, and can get scratched off easy. Plus, there's no easy way to clean off the brown, spots you get from baking. All that aside, this is a great device if you like homemade, and frozen varieties of pizza.
I used to try all kinds of tricks to get a frozen pizza to taste good. I'd microwave them partially first, I'd bake them directly on the oven rack; I'd try greasing the pan, or not greasing it. I had some success with these techniques, but it was a lot of work. This oven does the job, and gets the pizza cooked the way you want it. An easy flip switch on the top, can turn the heat on both sides, just the top, or just the bottom. You control the crispness, and the degree of browning on your pizza.
This oven is also great for baking those commercial, "take and bake" pizzas, from shops like Pappa Murphy's. Further, its better for reheating leftover pizzeria pizza than your microwave. What more can you want? I wanted just one thing, a 14" model. While most frozen pizza is 12" or smaller, you cannot heat one any larger. One final caution, rising crust pizzas will sometimes bubble, or rise into the top-heating element. It's a good idea to stay in the general area while the pizza is cooking, or it can potentially start a fire.
